What size tractor do I need for my number of acres?That depends on what you want to do with the tractor and what your land is like. If you just want to mow grass on a fairly small, flat, level yard, a riding mower will probably be all you will need. On the other hand, if you want to plow a field, bale hay, pull stumps or exchange implements with neighbors, you''ll need a more powerful machine.Take a look at the "Tractor Selection Chart" on the right. Under "Characteristics," note the differences among the four tractor categories and decide which category best fits your work environment. Under "Uses," determine which tasks you will want to do with your tractor and note which tractor categories are capable of performing those tasks. Most light-duty cab/chassis have standard cab-to-axle (CA) dimensions: 60, 84, 108 and 120 inches. The CA is the distance from the back of cab to the center of the rear axle. Typically the 60-inch measure is used for a 10-foot body, 84-inch for a 12-foot body, 108-inch for a 14- or 15-foot body, and 120-inch for a 15- or 16-foot body.You can use a four-door, 4x4 cab/chassis up to the 84-inch CA, but beyond that you may run into an overload situation. Be very cautious with the larger 14- to 16-foot bodies, even with a two-door unit. Bodies are fabricated many different ways: formed or extruded construction; steel, stainless steel or aluminum; and varying thicknesses. All these things will have an effect on the weight of your body. Aluminum weighs approximately 40% less than steel or stainless steel, allowing for more equipment storage or personnel in the long run. Though light in weight, Airbor magnetic drill has a powerful 1.6-hp air motor and 1,600-lb magnetic holding strength. With its extra rack, stroke length is extended to 10 1/4 in. Annular cutter capacity is up to 2 1/16 in. diam. Geared chuck adapter converts the unit to a standard drill press. The Slugger Air Force pneumatic drill, at 24 lbs, 6 1/4" high, is useful for confined area drilling. The drill''s features include a permanent magnet that turns on or off by air power, a cutter capacity of up to 1 1/16" diameter x 3/4" depth and the ability to use ShortSlugger cutters and frame cutters. These cutters'' geometry allows the operator to drill multi-layered truck frames in a single pass.
