Fuel Injector Nozzles -- Injector nozzles contain a chamber that fills with fuel. When the chamber is full, pressure increases rapidly. The high pressure pushes against a piston that pushes against a spring. When the fuel pressure exceeds the spring pressure, the spring starts to collapse. As the spring collapses, the piston moves up, uncovering either a single or a multitude of holes. The fuel rushes out the holes into the combustion chamber or pre-combustion chamber. When all the fuel has left the injector nozzle, the spring pushes the piston back on its seat, tightly sealing the nozzle.

Engine oil dilution with diesel fuel isn''t normally a concern. As dilution increases, blue smoke will appear and get thicker, alerting the operator of a problem. As long as the problem is discovered in a reasonable time, no measurable wear will occur When inspecting the engine components, the machined surfaces will have a polished, chrome-like appearance. Remember, diesel fuel is an oil and lubricates the injection pump, which has very fine tolerances.* Injection Fuel Lines -- Fuel-injection lines have a small (0.025in.) inside diameter Extreme care must be taken not to bend or kink a line and reduce the inside diameter of the tube. Any change in the inside diameter will alter fuel flow and affect the timing of that cylinder

Ultrasound works magicOne tool that South Dakota beef producers Blane and Cindy Nagel can''t do without is an ultrasound machine. All heifers on their 300-head Maine-Anjou herd are scanned each May and then bred according to their muscle scores and marbling levels. Ultrasound data for all sale bulls is provided to potential buyers. "As a breeder, I use it as a mating tool," says Blane, who farms near Springfield. "The buyers of my bulls use it as a selection tool." Nagel pays most attention to the marbling around the ribeye area. His cattle naturally muscle well, so he is looking for those who are also heavily marbled.
